For those who aren't familiar with DirecTv Latin America, we'll let their website explain...


DIRECTV Latin America, LLC, is a multinational company owned by DIRECTV Latin America Holdings, a subsidiary of The DIRECTV Group, Inc. and Darlene Investments, LLC, an affiliate of the Cisneros Group of Companies. The company was established on February 13, 1995, to provide the DIRECTV™ service to Latin America and the Caribbean and deliver direct-to-home satellite television entertainment service to Latin America and the Caribbean.

 

The service was launched in 1996. DIRECTV reaches 27 countries including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, Venezuela and several Caribbean island nations. DIRECTV offers more channels and has a greater coverage than any other direct-to-home service in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Subscribers to DIRECTV receive the widest array of entertainment options, all with sharp digital images and CD-quality sound. The programming is a mix from the best international entertainment providers in Latin America, the United States, Europe and Asia. DIRECTV was the first to introduce an interactive programming guide and pay-per-view services to Latin America.

We know people with the Direc Tv service here on Curacao that are happy with it but others still wanted some other channels to be included. We personally haven't used it to be able to give a review on quality or service so we can't judge those. We obviously recommend that you ask an existing customer about his/her experiences so that you get a better idea of what to expect.

    Since Sat March 14, 2009, our service has been cut off. Everytime we call, your representative advises us that they have to mail a letter to Trinidad about the problem. 'As of today we have heard nothing more, and now nobody wants to talk to us. Please tell me what is going on??? Doris & Tony Bonaire 717 6082.

    I'm sorry to inform you that I am in no way affiliated with DirecTv. I do not work for them, nor do I advertise for them. Our site merely gives information on what the market has to offer, so people can make better choices with regards to technology and tech related issues.

    I am sorry to hear that you are getting such a bad service because you are a paying customer that deserves much better...but again, I can't help you.

    You should give Direct TV some classes on good customer service.

    I understand your frustrations Doris. Things like this is a big reason why we started this website... it's to give people a place to vent/react/ask questions about service and issues that they get confronted with on a daily basis.

    You are always welcome to comment or to e-mail us with issues like this. Since we don't work with these companies, we usually can only offer advice, but it does get the word out there and other people can also share experiences....good ones and bad ones.

    We just want things to be brought forward in a fair manner and we will voice our opinion as unbiased as possible.

    We are happy to report that after my husband faxed a letter to Directtv yesterday morning, our service came back on in the afternoon.
    I don't know what did the trick, or what the problem was, but we are now very happy in paradise again.

    Ik ben sedert 29 jan. 2009 member van Directv. Het is vandaag 28 maart nog steeds geen goede afstemming. bellen helpt niet omdat niemand opneemt. er naar toe gaan ook niet want ze beloven van alles en liegen waar je erbij staat.

    Nog meer slechte service van DirecTv. Het is echt ongelofelijk hoeveel klachten er deze dagen zijn.

    Hi first I want to congratulate all who made this Side possible.
    Here's my story.
    I live in Aruba.
    2 years ago I bought a Directv system from GRupo Leo N.V the represantitive of Dtv in ARuba.
    I got a very old receiver with a remote that doesn't work for F812.
    But the receiver works okay so I enjoyed Directv service for the last 2 years despite all the bad service I got with them.
    Now last month when I went to their office to pay my bill they showed me a new receiver they just got and said that I have to buy that receiver now if I want to continue to get Directv service.
    I told them that I'm not interested in the new receiver and that I just want to continue with the service as it is right now.
    They said no because Directv has changed his system and without the new receiver I won't be able to pick up the service anymore.
    They didn't even offer me a trade in option I had to buy that New receiver and throw that one I have in the trash.
    I said no I'm not gonna buy the new receiver then they refused to take my money they said keep your money because we are gonna shut off your system cause you have the old receiver.
    Now they have shut it off and they still persist that I have to buy the new receiver if I wanna get Directtv back.
    Is there any head office that I can send an E-mail to that I can report this on something.
    The big problem is I live in Aruba and this island is so behind in technology the cable system is still analog and my tv doesn't support analog anymor...

    Do you know if direct tv offers HD here in curacao? This would probably be the only deciding factor to even choose direct tv. If they do not, is there any cable provider that offers HD here on the island?

    I think the options are very limited at the moment. The people I've asked do not know about DirecTv, but according to them, TDS might have a few channels in HD.

    But again, the options are really limited right now. I'll do some more asking and I'll post the answers once I know for sure.

    It's an expensive investment, but I've seen the :5 channels and it looks great

    Well, the website with the info for Curacao and Aruba is the one we linked to in the article....it seems to be down now, but that was the one.

    I don't know of any other site that they have.

    Anyone else having probs with basic channels gone missing with a card error showing:
    ABC
    FOX
    CNN
    BBC News

    Calling them is futile - no one answers!

    I went to visit my mom today and her DirecTV was missing ABC and FOX. CNN was there, but both FOX and ABC show that same missing card error that Eric and Boris are getting.

    Probeer al dagen contact op te nemen met DirecTV voor een vraagje over verhuizing. En tot op heden krijg ik niemand aan de lijn dan alleen een stom computer die de hele tijd tegen me zegt dat iedereen in georek is. I kan niet langsgaan omdat ik van 8 to 5 uur werk. Hebben ze geen e-mailafres, misschien dat ze wel hun mailtjes beantwoorden?

    Ja, dat is een beetje vervelend want de DirecTv Caribbean page heeft een contact form en een e-mail address maar ik weet niet of het aankomt bij hun kantoor hier op Curacao...

    Hello David, Is it possible to purchase DiercTV access cards for the receivers I want to send to Curacao from USA? I am planning to have 5 HD TVs installed and DirecTV on the island tells me I must have 5 separate accounts as they will not allow more than 1 HD receiver per account. I don't want 5 accounts; I want 1 account with 5 receivers. Any direction you can give would greatly be appreciated. Thanks, Harold

    I went looking through their information booklet and there is nothing written in there over how many HD receivers you may have per account. If they told you that they only allow 1 HD receiver per account, then you might be out of luck.

    As for the access cards... I don't dare to say. If someone knows the answer to that..please feel free to leave it here in the comments or mail it to me at david@curacaoconnected.com

    I do find it odd though that you can only have 1 HD receiver per account.

    David, Thanks for the quick reply! I went to the DirecTV office on Curacao a few weeks ago when I was on island. That is where I got the 1 HD receiver per account. I was told that the account could have 1 HD rcvr and no more than 2 more SD rcvrs. Tech wise it doesn't make sense.

    They describe the system like this....

    single LNB 24 inch dish feeds a multiswitch(single wire) which feeds the receivers. Fairly straight forward. The system shouldn't care what receivers you have connected, right? So why the limitation on HD rcvrs? Maybe it's equipment availability?

    As for the access cards, I see on their website you can order replacement cards. I could try this route for new card. Or contact DirecTV USA to see if they can assist.

    Equipment availability is the only thing that I can think of right now. I really don't see why else there would be a limit on them...

    I'd contact direcTv Usa first if I was you and see with what they can assist. Although, this is an issue with DirecTV Caribbean so maybe they'll tell you that you just have to go by what is said here on the island.
